October Shows 2009

Saturday October 3rd. So we started the fall month of October just right. We got to play a show @ JDee's Landing in Palm Springs CA. So that day Abe & Lauren came down from Chino to my(!Jorge!) house and we picked up Tony, practiced, loaded our equipment and were on our way to Palm Springs... Normally we get to the venue early and since it was 6-something-pm, we thought we could walk around Palm Springs for a bit but check in time wasn't until 8pm. So we had about an hour or so to kill. So we checked out that Spirit Halloween Shop in La Quinta off Hwy 111 & Washington. Man, are those places a bitch to shoplift at! As soon as we got bored we took off to Palm Springs,we parked our rides and walked along Palm Canyon Dr. I never knew some of those shops had such cool tie-dye shirts, they even had one of Elvis from Hawaii! Hah that same shop even had the craziest pieces to smoke out of hah. I mean, bongs and pipes are no big deal but these were funny little credit card pieces. Pretty sweet deals if I may say so myself. Anywho, Tony and I walked off into the strip and ended up at Burger King. A double cheeseburger has never tasted so good, I barely even had change in my pocket to afford that and a soda. Well it turns out that I wasn't allowed to bring my OWN drink into the bar, go figure! So we hung out front instead, next to our ride but we had one of the people from the bar tell our friend KC(promoter for the night) that we were 'drinking' out in the front! The nerve! Hahaha. Anywho! The show began with our friends from Grow Well rocking a bunch of rock runes. I guess their singer used to be in a older valley band, Forgotten Sons. They were gaining lots of popularity amongst us kids back in the day. They finished their set, we set up and began with 'And The Lunchbox of Secrets'. I must say, I never expected a bar to have such a great crowd. We played for about 20 minutes and we had an awesome crowd dancing for most, if not ALL of our set. Such a wonderful ending to our night! At the end of our set we got a lot of positive feedback and even got hit up for a few shows. After us, Slipping Into Darkness, Nattlesnake & Dreamcatcher played. By the time Dreamcatcher was on we had to make our exit. Tony & I took off with Abe & Lauren back towards Chino that Saturday night to prepare for our next show. From the 10 to the 60 fwy, it was nothing but us singing and shouting all the songs from 'The Meteors - In Heaven' album at the top of our lungs. Oh the fun us Mumblers can have with music that isn't ours amd a little bit of weed. I tell you, I can't drive as well in a hot-boxed car...

Sunday October 4th was a Benefit Show for Johnny of The Sleestak's late Uncle, Roddy @ The Pharaohs Den in Riverside CA. I'm going to be honest, we weren't suppose to play this gig but Abe had booked The Peabrains for it and I was to fill in that night. Not that I DIDN'T want to, it was a benefit show though so we didn't want to ask for gas money but since Abe was giving us a ride there and back so we were okay with playing as Los Mumblers as well. So we spent the day practicing and lounging about. We're so lazy! So Tony, Adrian, his friend and I ended up taking Lauren's car with some equipment while Abe and Lauren took off in the other car with the rest of the equipment. Finding parking in Downtown Riverside is a bitch! Finding The Pharaohs Den is more of a bitch! Turns out it's next to this big Coffee House, I think it was called 'It's a Grind Coffee'... We should've known! The place was pretty much empty throughout the whole night, it being a sunday night and what not but it was a fun time. We busked it out front for a bit and had a couple random strangers from the coffee shop next door check us out but we had to cut that short. Anywho the show began and Wreckin Katz were nowhere to be found, Dawn Riders flaked out and Gonzo & The Junkies coulnd't make it either. So Uptown Psychos started the night off with some good heavy tunes... Right before they finished I went to go grab our Merchandise from the car. When I went out back I saw a bar fight that wasn't in a bar but in the back of it. One of the guys in the brawl was one of the random strangers that watched us busking and said he liked it. Fun fight. We then followed the show as Peabrains and then Los Mumblers. Our set was fun, as always. Luckily we sold enough shirts to get us by for food and gas money, so that helped. Oh, if you're interested in shirts. Please hit us up. We need to sell some so we can print better ones!...

Saturday October 10th. Oh my, with so many bands at a werehouse in South Central, how could this go wrong? Easily. With SO MANY FUCKING BANDS! Half of the bands didn't even get to play. Ska, Punk, Metal and Psychobilly bands. It was fun, cold and lame as fuck because we were so close to playing BUT stupid locals kept bitching because they wanted to play before us. We fucking drove from Coachella for that crap but it happens. We got gas money so we can't complain too much, plus we ended up at Robby's(Peabrain's) friend's apartment. Chill night overall, got some Jack in The Box, some Guinness and played with Janet's kitty...

Saturday October 17th. San Diego has such a great scene but we should've known as soon it wouldn't have turned out great. Mission Beach or as it was so affectionally dubbed 'Horror Beach' seemed like a great idea but it wasn't. First off, our ride bailed on us. So we had to call Abe, Adrian and Lauren to pick up Tony and I up at the Palm Desert Mall. So now for us to pack and get to the mall and luckily we got a ride from our dear friend Phylicia. We should've stayed home hah. We love our dear friend Ronnie but that FREE SHOW wasn't that great. We set off to San Diego through Highway 74, talk about dizzy. Mountain trails suck but we got there in time. Too bad when we got there it was foggy as foggy can be and nobody was at the beach! AND BELMONT PARK NEXT TO THE SHOW WAS EXPENSIVE! Fuck that Rollercoaster for being so damn expensive! ($6 a ride is a little much. Damn ticket sales). Biggest and possibly only complain I had was the fact that the piece of shit generator didn't even work. We hopped on, ready to play some tunes for the people who showed up BUT it decided Los Mumblers rock too hard! We have proof too!!! and we tried playing acoustically but we had some guy asking us to play songs we didn't even know as if we were some jukebox but our dumbasses ended up figuring these songs out hah, we rool! We had fun afterwards on the foggy beach, listening to Wavves on the beach was nice. It was also creepy, dark, wet, but cool. Kind of like a pimp and a hooker in cool matching halloween costumes. Oh and the food at that mexican joint off Mission was awesome! The ride home was terrible though, not too comfy but I think it sucked more for Abe since he drove and we all slept. Sorry haha.

Friday October 23rd. The Country Corner in San Bernardino is also known as The Fun, Ghost Town and a bunch of other stupid names. We call it The Country Corner because that's the name written across the bar BUT the bands don't play inside... No, they play in the backyard, next to the railroad, I mean trains are loud! but they are trains, so I let them slide! Anywho, some ska band opened up, then Rudo-Movimiento, Salme House went next, Stoneage was after and Peabrains and then Los Mumblers. The Riff-Raffs didn't show up though. Hmmm the show was a bummer, so they didn't miss out on much haha.
